How To Do Simple Magic Tricks
Are you curious about learning magic but worried about the difficulty level? Fear not! Beginner magic is not as challenging as it may seem. This article offers step-by-step guidance on how to get started doing magic tricks.
Performing simple magic tricks is just as easy as it sounds. One classic trick that you may already know is the rubber pencil trick, which can be found in many beginner magic books. By holding a wooden pencil by one end and then shaking it up and down at just the right speed, it appears to be bending and looks as if it's made of rubber instead of wood. It may take a little practice to get it down pat, but once you do, the effect will be quite impressive. You can even add a few words of your own to make it more dynamic, such as "Look at this pencil, it seems to be made of rubber!" or "I bet you can't believe it's not rubber!" Of course, you don't want to overdo it, so practice your timing and make sure you don't take too long in between words. With a little practice, you'll be able to pull off this classic trick in no time.
Two quick rules for the beginner magician:
1. Practice the trick before showing it to anyone. It's important to make sure you have a complete understanding of the trick before you perform it. If at all possible, you need to practice your tricks in front of a mirror. This will give you an idea of how they'll look to a live audience. Take your time and practice each part of the trick until you can do it comfortably and confidently.
2. Resist the temptation to explain how a certain trick works. Remember, a magician never reveals their secrets. This is part of the mystique of magic, and part of the fun for your audience. It's also important to understand that the trick is only a small part of the performance. You'll also need to be able to engage your audience and keep them entertained.
There are several ways to learn how to do a few simple magic tricks that can fool your friends. If you're just starting out, the internet is a great resource for learning new tricks. There are plenty of tutorials and videos that can help you practice and perfect your skills. You could also look for a book on the basics of magic and get started on some simple illusions. Of course, you should also take the time to practice and perfect your technique. Remember, practice makes perfect! Magic is a great hobby for adults and children. And speaking of kids, what kid aged 6 to 106 doesn’t like magic, so there will always be an audience out there waiting for you.
Now here are a few ways to learn magic:
1. Buy A Magic Kit. Many famous magicians got their start with a kids' magic kit. These kits are a great way to learn the fundamentals of magic. You can learn the basics of card tricks, coin tricks, rope tricks, and even mentalism. There are some good tricks in some of the beginner magic kits, so you'll be able to impress your friends and family right away.
2. Buy A Magic Book. Books are usually a much better buy than a magic kit. While kits are a great way to get started, they are often limited in their scope. But with a book, you can find a larger variety of tricks and effects. You will almost always get more for your money when you buy a magic book. Plus, you can find books that specialize in a particular area of magic, like mentalism or close-up magic. So whatever type of magic you're interested in, you'll be able to find a book that caters to it.
3. Visit a Library. Libraries are a great place to get started learning about magic. Most libraries will have a few books on magic, and since it's free, it's a great way to get your feet wet. Plus, you can often find instructional videos and even magazines related to magic, so you can learn even more.
4. Visit a Magic Shop. If you're fortunate enough to have a magic shop nearby, it's definitely worth a visit. (Of course, there are not that many shops around today) Not only can you browse the numerous tricks and supplies available to purchase, but you can often find someone to help you learn the tricks and techniques. In addition, many stores have workshops, which are a great way to learn the fundamentals of magic and even meet other magicians.
5. Shop Online. And you can always visit one of the online magic shops. Not as good this way because a beginner can waste a lot of money on tricks not suitable for them.
6. Ask A Magician. If it's to learn a simple magic trick, and you know a magician, you could always ask them to teach you. While magicians don’t like giving away their secrets, most will be glad to teach you a simple beginner trick that you can do.
7. Search YouTube. It’s not a secret that today you can learn how to do just about anything on YouTube. And yes, there are some teaching easy magic tricks there too. You will need to know what to search for. Use terms like, ‘10 Easy Magic Tricks’ ‘Simple Magic Tricks for Anyone’ ‘7 Magic Tricks You Can Do’, and other words like that.
Now for those wanting to dive deeper into magic and learn more than just a simple magic trick, I highly recommend that you check out a book called “Mark Wilson’s Complete Course in Magic” The hardcover copy is a 472-page classic that every magician should own. It’s not an expensive book. If you need help finding a copy, just let me know.
And if you’re already a working professional magician who entertains children, you probably already know about my magic book “The Daycare Magician’ and if you don’t own it and you’re not already using the information in it, shame on you. (lol)
