How To Get Started Selling On eBay

I first started selling on eBay on September 9th, 2000, and since then, I have sold a wide assortment of items. Currently, I am selling a variety of collectible items, such as trading cards, coins, and other miscellaneous items. I generally keep my sales around the $20 mark. While I have sold items ranging from $1 to several hundred dollars in years past, I prefer more affordable but profitable products. But this post is not about me or what I’ve done on eBay, it’s to offer guidance to those looking to begin their own eBay selling journey. Maybe it’s just to get rid of a few unwanted items, or you’re wanting to make some serious extra money. It’s actually not that hard to sell items on eBay, but there are a few basics to learn. So let's dive in!

There are a few things you should learn and understand if you are planning to test the waters for your eBay business, no matter whether you are doing it for the pleasure of making some extra money or if you are seriously considering it as a business opportunity. Once you have decided to become an eBay seller, there are a few basics that you will need to learn. Continually staying informed of what the hottest items are to sell on eBay is one of the most important things you can do in order to succeed.

As you might expect, I will not give you a specific list of what should be listed on eBay as the best item to sell. Because of the ease with which you can sell almost anything on eBay! You name any product and eBay probably has it for sale.

This does not mean, however, that once you become a seller, you can offer just anything and it will sell. Remember that you decided to become an eBay seller to earn money. Master the primary secret in eBay selling – learning how to market on eBay. Once you have an idea of the right thing to sell on eBay, you also learn how to acquire this thing as well as what it takes to attract customers to buy it.

You may think that the most valuable thing to sell on eBay is the latest hot consumer product. Well, think again. Selling the latest consumer products would be a wise idea if you did not have any competition like the established online sellers and other big online companies. These companies have already taken the first step in flooding the online markets with the latest products. You will not stand a chance against them.

The right thing to sell on eBay is an item that’s already been used but is still in good condition. A very specialized product is another option. This kind of product is not common, and chances are only a few sell it.

Chances are that many used items that have the potential to sell are lying around your house. They are taking up space in the attic or burning a hole in your closets. Books, toys, clothes that have outgrown, equipment, and gadgets that have already been replaced, such as computers, DVDs, radios, and stereos. You can even bet that your stacks of collectible items that you no longer care about might make an excellent sale on eBay. Instead of just trashing the items, you can earn a handsome profit from these used items while they are still in good condition.

Finding the right thing to sell on eBay from used odds and ends in your house is a very risk-free way of getting into the eBay business. But you may also need to spend some money. Repairing, shipping, and storage costs are things to consider.

Suppose you don't want to sell any of your used possessions but are still interested in eBay. What’s the right thing to sell on eBay, then? You can still sell used items by buying them at a low price. Garage sales and flea markets are some of the sources of these items. If you prefer selling brand-new goods, these can be bought from companies that offer closeouts, clearance sales, or discount stores. The hottest things to sell on eBay may come from overstock, non-moving, and seasonal items up for discounts.

And don’t rule out the thought of finding deals on eBay to resell on eBay. It happens more often than you may think. I personally have bought in bulk on eBay and then broken it down into smaller lots to resell. Today I mostly sell items that can be resold, and I often do see some of my items for sale on eBay.

Now if you have never purchased anything from eBay, I strongly suggest that you make a purchase before you start trying to make a sale. This will give you the feel of it and you will see firsthand how things work.

I personally prefer selling with the Buy It Now format rather than having folks bid on the item. Of course, you can do both.

One word of warning when you're searching for eBay seller information online. Due to changes made by eBay in recent years, much of the information available online may be outdated. It's important to check the dates on articles to ensure accuracy. Additionally, don't hesitate to reach out to other sellers and ask for help or guidance.

I wish you well with the new business and if I can be of help, just let me know.

Thanks for reading

Tom
