Let’s Talk About Purple Rain
The Super Bowl game was played on February 4, 2007, at Dolphin Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. It was the Indianapolis Colts vs the Chicago Bears. With 74,512 fans sitting in the stands, and millions watching on TV, Colts Devin Hester ran the ball back 92 yards for a touchdown during the first 14 seconds of the game. But for many that wasn’t as exciting as what happened during the halftime show.
So, Let’s talk about Prince….
Prince Rogers Nelson born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on June 7, 1958, was known simply as Prince. He was an American singer, songwriter, musician, and record producer. Prince gave what is considered by many as one of the greatest Super Bowl halftime shows of all time during that game at Dolphin Stadium in Miami, Florida,
Leading up to the performance, there were concerns about the weather, as it had been raining heavily in the days leading up to the game. But despite the rain and wind, Prince took the stage and delivered an unforgettable performance. He performed a 12-minute set including his hits “Let’s Go Crazy” and “Baby I’m a Star”. He also performed Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Proud Mary”, Queen’s “We Will Rock You”, Bob Dylan’s “All Along the Watchtowers”, and the Foo Fighters’ “Best of You”. It was pouring rain during his performance of “Purple Rain” to end the performance. His energetic show is considered one of the best halftime shows in history.
That Super Bowl halftime show was not only a triumph for Prince personally but also for the music industry as a whole. It proved that a single live performance could be just as powerful as a recorded album, and it inspired countless musicians and performers to strive for excellence. Prince's legacy as one of the greatest musicians of all time continues to be felt today, and his Super Bowl halftime show remains a shining example of his talent and artistry.
Final Score of the game Colts 29 - Bears 17
In April 2016, at the age of 57, Prince died after accidentally overdosing on fentanyl at his Paisley Park home and recording studio in Chanhassen, Minnesota.
